U.S. packaging solutions major Sonoco Products Company has opened a global capability centre (GCC) at Hyderabad that will harness data analytics, automation and emerging technologies to drive innovation in packaging design and manufacturing.
The NYSE listed firm, whose net sales was about $6.8 billion in 2023, has lined up an investment of up to $10 million in the first phase of the Performance Hub or the GCC which will also nurture the next generation of talent. The setting up of the facility reflects its commitment to innovation and digital transformation as well as enhancing technology leadership, Sonoco said.
The firm aims at onboarding about 300 technologists over 12-18 months and increase the number to 500 over the next three years.
“The Hyderabad Performance Hub is a major leap forward in our digital transformation... will enhance ability to deliver more efficient and sustainable packaging solutions and also provide local talent with opportunities to lead advancements in technology and manufacturing,” president and CEO Howard Coker said in a release.
Hyderabad offers the perfect environment with its dynamic technology ecosystem for the hub, Chief Information Officer Rajeev Ankireddypalli said. Sonoco has appointed Arvind Chittora, who has been with the firm for more than 23 years, as managing director of the hub.
