Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, a predominantly indoor lighting player and part of the $2.5 billion Wipro Enterprises, has decided to sharpen focus on outdoor lighting solutions too amid emerging opportunities.
“We are expanding our portfolio in outdoor lighting,” Senior VP and Business Head (Commercial and Institutional Business) Anuj Dhir said, explaining the firm intends to enhance focus on sports stadia, facade and landscaping lighting solutions. This would be in addition to street illumination segment it caters as part of the foray into outdoor lighting about six years ago.
Outdoor lighting contributes around 15% to the ₹1,000 crore revenue, a portion Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting is keen on growing. “Infrastructure as a business segment is the fastest growing [comprising lighting solutions] for roads, metro stations, railways, educational institutions, medical colleges,” he said in an interaction at the opening of the customer experience centre in Hyderabad recently. It is first such other than the one at the company’s head office in Pune. In the next financial year, the company plans to open 6-8 more experience centres in most of the major cities.
On the indoor lighting segment, Mr. Dhir said as a design and innovation focused business the company is constantly evolving new products, including smart solutions, to meet the market demands across business segments such as office, retail, industrial and infrastructure space.
Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, which is also into seating solutions, has third party manufacturing facilities in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
To queries around how workplaces are changing, post Covid especially, he said employees return, after working from home, has meant changes to office space. “The environment of office is changing the way they are doing colours, designs, layouts, more spaces to sit... the whole idea is how do they attract them to come back. People are more conscious about employee well being. So now they are talking about quality of air, environment per se, light quality, comfortable lighting, areas to relax,” Mr.Dhir said, seeking to highlight the business opportunities for various players such as Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting. And it is not new buildings where the workspaces are being planned differently as some of the existing offices are getting modified, he said.
